How is breast cancer diagnosed? [1]

Symptoms are investigated using the triple test approach.

The ‘triple test [2]’ includes:

  • clinical breast examination and taking a personal history
  • imaging tests (mammogram, ultrasound and/or MRI)
  • a biopsy to remove cells or tissue for examination – this can involve fine-needle aspiration or core biopsy (which uses a wider needle).
